Infotainment Media Privacy Policy

Infotainment Media (IM) values the privacy of individuals who use our products and services. This Privacy Policy describes the information that IM and its subsidiaries and affiliated companies (“IM,” “we,” or “us”) collect about consumers ( “you” and “your household”) and how we use and share that information.

Scope of this Privacy Policy

This Privacy Policy applies to information collected by IM on the“IM Services”, which includes: IM websites ( “IM Sites”), IM’s products and certain other products utilizing IM’s streaming platform or operating systems (including IM players, IM TVs, speakers and other audio-enabled products) (collectively, “IM Devices”), certain IM co-branded channels (“B-vision Network Channels”), IM’s mobile apps (including the Studio TV Mobile App), IM branded channels like the Volcano Media Player and The Studio TV Channel (“IM’s Channels”), the IM emails and newsletters, and IM’s accounts on third-party social networking sites.
The IM Services enable certain third-party content providers to provide content to you through their own channels ( “Third-Party Channels”), and through IM co-branded channels like the B-Vision Network Channels. These channel providers and their analytics and advertising partners may collect information from the IM Services or from their channels on the IM Devices, including your device identifier and how you use their channels. This Privacy Policy does not cover the actions of these third-party channel providers. For more information about their practices, please consult their privacy policies.
Part I. Information Collection
A variety of information is collected from or about you from various sources, as described below.
A. Information You Provide
1. Registration Information
When you sign up for a IM account, we ask you for your name, email address, postal address, telephone number, birth date, and demographic information. If you sign up using a social media account, we will also receive information from those social networking services, for example, your name or user name.
2. Payment and Shipping Information
When you add a credit card or payment method to your account or place an order with us, we will collect your payment information and billing address, and (if you make a product purchase), your shipping information.
3. Communications
If you contact us directly, we may receive additional information you provide, such as your name, email address, phone number, the contents of a message or attachments that you may send to us.
4. Information You Provide About Others
We also collect the personal information of other people, for example, if you provide email addresses of friends for referrals or postal addresses of recipients for gift purchases.
B. Information We Collect as You Use the IM Services
1. Apps, Browser and Device Information
When you use the IM Services, we may receive information about the apps, browser and devices you use to access our services, such as device types and models, unique identifiers (including, for IM Devices, the Advertising Identifier associated with that device), IP address, operating system type and version, browser type and language, Wi-Fi network name and connection data, and information about other devices connected to the same network. For IM Devices, we may also collect the name of the retailer to whom your IM Device was shipped, various quality measures, error logs and software version numbers.
2. Information from Cookies and Other Technologies
We and third-party partners collect information on our websites using cookies, pixel tags, or similar technologies. Our third-party partners, such as analytics and advertising partners, may use these technologies to collect information about your online activities over time and across different online services. 3. Your Activity and Other Usage Information
We receive information about your interactions with the IM Services, such as when you access the IM Services, your search history, search results, audio information when you use voice-enabled features, channels you access (including usage statistics such as what channels you access, the time you access them, and how long you spend viewing them), interactions with content and advertisements, and settings and preferences. We receive information about your activities within any Studio TVChannel or any of IM’s Channels, like the videos and other content you select and view within these channels. If you use the Volcano Media Player channel to view your video or photo files or listen to your music files, IM will collect data about the files viewed within the Volcano Media Player, such as codecs, and other metadata of the local files you play through the Volcano Media Player. If you use Studio TV mobile apps, in addition to the other usage information described in this section, we also log whether you use Studio TV app to play content stored on your mobile device (such as music, photos, or videos) through the IM Device connected with Studio TV mobile apps. To let you play videos, photos and music stored on your mobile device on your TV through the IM Device, Studio TV mobile apps may need permissions to access the content and other information stored on your mobile device.
C. Information We Receive from Third Parties
We may receive data about you from third-party sources like data providers and combine it with the data that we collect from you or your use of the IM Services. These third-party data may include age, gender, interests and other demographic data. We may also receive your personal information from others if they have referred you as described under Part I, Section A(4) above.
D. Information Collected by Channel Providers
If you install or view any Third-Party Channel or IM Volcano Media Player (i.e., a channel on the channel’s home page), the provider of such channel and its advertising partners may collect information about your IM Devices (including unique identifiers, IP addresses, and device settings like language and time zone), your IM account registration information (if you choose to share that with them), and your usage of their channels (e.g., videos, advertisements and other content you search, select and view within their channels, and audio information when you use voice-enabled features), as described in the privacy policy for that channel, and you should review such privacy policy to understand how these third parties may use your data. In addition, IM may also receives information about your interactions with the Volcano Media Player, as described in Part I, Section B-3 above.
Part II. Information Usage
A. Use by or on Behalf of IM
Information collected by IM is used by IM and others on IM’s behalf for the following purposes:
1. Support, Maintenance and Fulfillment:
to provide and maintain the IM Services, and to process and fulfill your requests or orders;
2. Improvement of Products and Services:
to understand and analyze our user base and how you use the IM Services, and to improve and enhance the IM Services, and to develop new products, services, features and functionality;
3. Personalization:
to personalize your experience, including suggesting and offering you relevant content and recommendations;
4. Advertising:
to show you personalized advertising on the IM Services, Third-Party Channels, and on third-party websites, mobile apps, platforms and devices, and to understand the effectiveness of such advertising;
5. Marketing and Promotions:
for marketing purposes, including sending you emails and text messages about products, events, promotions and offers from IM or its partners or advertisers, and understanding the effectiveness of our marketing;
6. Analytics and Performance:
to measure performance and analyze key metrics relevant to our business;
7. Service Communication and Customer Care:
to communicate with you, including sending you service information such as confirmations, invoices, notices, updates, security alerts, user surveys, and support and administrative messages; and to respond to your comments and questions and provide customer service;
8. Protect IM, our Users and Others:
to enforce our terms and conditions or protect our business, partners or users; and
9. Security and Fraud Prevention:
to protect, investigate, and deter against fraudulent, unauthorized, infringing or illegal activity.
Part III. Information Sharing
A. Your Sharing
You can share reviews or feedback on the IM Sites and comments and content on IM’s developer forums, message boards, and accounts on third-party social networking sites. Information posted in these venues may be available to the public. You can also share with IM personal information of other people as described in “Information You Provide” under Part I, Section A above (e.g., for referrals or gift purchases). We rely on you to obtain the permission of those other people to allow us to collect their personal information. Please be mindful of your own privacy needs and those of others as you choose what to share and make public. We cannot control the privacy or security of information you choose to make public. You can also choose to share your IM account registration information with providers of Third-Party Channels and Volcano Media Player Channels.
B. IM’s Sharing
1. Service Providers and Vendors
IM uses third parties (including contractors and service providers) to provide services for us and to help with our operations, which may require that they access and use your information. For example, IM may use a third party to communicate with you (via telephone, email, or letter) about our products or services, to send information to you, to process and collect payment via your credit card (if applicable), to provide customer support, to receive additional data about you, and to perform analytics and other work that we may need to outsource.
2. Channel Providers
IM shares information with third parties whose services are available through the IM Services such as providers of Third-Party Channels and Volcano Media Player Channels. For example, IM may provide them with aggregated reporting on the performance of their channels, such as the total number of channel installations or the number of hours streamed for the channel.
3. Analytics Providers
We use analytics services such as Google Analytics to collect and process certain analytics data on IM Services. These analytics services may also collect information regarding your use of third-party websites, apps, online services, and devices. You can learn about Google’s practices by going to , and opt out of them by downloading the Google Analytics opt-out browser add-on, available at .
4. Advertising Partners
We work with third-party advertising partners to show you advertisements that we think may interest you on IM Services and on third-party websites, apps, and devices. These advertising partners may set and access their own cookies, pixel tags and similar technologies on the IM Services and they may otherwise collect or have access to information about you which they may collect over time and across different online services and devices. If you do not wish to receive personalized advertisements, you can read about your choices below under Part IV, Information Access and Choices.
5. Advertising Measurement Providers
We work with third-party advertising measurement providers to help us and our advertisers understand the effectiveness of their ad campaigns. These measurement providers collect or receive information about your viewing of or interaction with advertisements, including advertisements that you view within Volcano Media Player Channels, Studio TV’s Channels and Third-Party Channels, IM may also share your demographics data and audience segments (e.g. sports fans, sitcom enthusiasts, cord cutters, etc.) with advertising measurement providers. Some advertising measurement providers act as our service providers and may only use the data they collect for purposes of providing services to IM. We may share information that personally identifies you directly with these providers, but if we do, we will not share your viewing data with them. Other advertising measurement providers use your information to provide services to their other clients, and we will not share information that personally identifies you directly with these providers. However, if these providers already have your identifiable information (e.g., if you have provided it to them or they have obtained it from a third party), then they may be able to associate that data with the information we provide to them. Measurement providers use your information to create statistics about what content and advertisements are being watched – for example, to help them and their clients understand the audience viewing the content or advertisements, and to measure the effectiveness of the advertisements.
6. Corporate Affiliates
We may share some or all of your information with our current or future “affiliates” (which means a parent company, any subsidiaries, joint ventures, or other companies under common control), in which case we will require our affiliates to honor this Privacy Policy.
7. Consent
IM also may share personally identifying information with your consent, for example, when you agree to our sharing of your personally identifying information with other third parties for their own marketing purposes, subject to their separate privacy policies.
8. Merger, Sale, or Other Asset Transfers
IM may also share your information with others in connection with or during negotiation of any merger, financing, acquisition, bankruptcy, dissolution, transaction or proceeding involving sale, transfer, divestiture or disclosure of all or a portion of our business or assets to another company.
9. As Required by Law and Similar Disclosures
IM may also share your information to (1) comply with laws or to respond to lawful requests and legal process, (2) to protect the rights and property of IM, our employees, agents, customers, and others, including to enforce our agreements, policies, and terms of use, (3) in an emergency to protect the personal safety of IM, its employees or customers, or any person, or (4) to investigate, prevent, or take action regarding illegal or suspected illegal activities.
10. Aggregated or De-Identified Information
We may also share aggregated or de-identified information (i.e., information that does not personally identify you directly), or statistical information about you, including demographics data and audience segments (e.g., sports fans, sitcom enthusiasts, cord cutters, etc.), with others for a variety of purposes, including for their own uses, for example, for improving their products and services for IM and others, and to make advertisements more relevant to your interests.
Part IV. Information Access and Choices
A. General Requests
If you have a IM account, you may view and update certain contact and billing information we have about you by logging into your account on If you otherwise wish to ask for access, correction, or deletion of any of your personal information held by us or a change in the way we use your information (for which we reserve the right to charge you a fee, as permitted by applicable law), or (if you are a resident of Alberta, Canada), to obtain information about our policies and practices with respect to foreign service providers, please contact our Data Privacy Officer at However, IM may decline requests that are unreasonable, prohibited by law, or are not required to be honored by applicable law.
B. Email Marketing Choices
Our marketing emails tell you how to opt out of receiving further marketing emails. If you opt out, we may still send you non-marketing emails, such as emails about your accounts and our business dealings with you, and, as allowed by applicable law, requests for your participation in surveys. You may also contact us at at any time to let us know that you no longer wish to receive further marketing emails from us.
C. Mobile App and Website Advertising Choices
You can opt out of personalized advertising on any Studio TV mobile app, and from receiving personalized advertisements from IM, and our advertising partners who serve advertisements for us, on third-party mobile applications, by accessing any settings offered by your mobile operating system to limit ad tracking.
D. IM Device and Advertising Identifier Choices
You have the following choices about the Advertising Identifier associated with your IM Device. Your choice will only apply to the specific IM Device from which you made your choice, so if you have more than one IM Device, you must make these choices in the “Settings” menu of each IM Device. If you perform a device factory reset, you will remove this preference and will need to renew your selection. 1. IM will make your Limit Ad Tracking setting available to channel providers, but they may continue to serve you personalized advertisements and share your data with their measurement providers. You should consult the privacy policies of these channel providers to learn more about your options.
E. Do Not Track
At this time, there is no accepted standard for how to respond to Do Not Track signals, and we do not respond to such signals.
Part V. Data Storage, Transfer and Security
IM uses industry-standard methods of securing its electronic databases of personal information. However, you should know that no company, including IM, can fully eliminate security risks associated with personal information. To help protect yourself, please use a strong password, do not use the same password to access your IM account that you use with other accounts or services, and protect your user names and passwords to help prevent others from accessing your accounts and services. IM is a global company with affiliates, varied business processes, management structures and technical systems that cross borders. Information collected by IM or on our behalf may be stored on your IM Devices, on your mobile device if you use IM’s mobile apps, or on our servers, and may be transferred to, accessed from, or stored and processed in, the United States, EU member state countries, the Philippines and Costa Rica, and any other country where IM or its service providers maintain facilities or call centers. You consent to the transfer of information to countries outside your country of residence, which may have different data protection rules than in your country. While such information is outside of your country of residence, it is subject to the laws of the country in which it is held, and may be subject to disclosure to the governments, courts or law enforcement or regulatory agencies of such other country, pursuant to the laws of such country. We will protect all personal information we obtain in accordance with this Privacy Policy and take reasonable steps to ensure that it is treated lawfully. Personal information we collect may be retained for as long as needed to fulfill legitimate business purposes, including the purposes outlined in “Information Usage” under Part II, or for a period of time specifically required or allowed by applicable regulations or laws.
Part VI. Modifications
We may amend this Privacy Policy at any time by posting the amended version on the applicable IM Site or by providing such notice about or obtaining consent to changes as may be required by applicable law.
